Read, reflect and connect. đź’ś
Neo Mind Book Club is an intimate monthly women’s book club dedicated to building community through meaningful reading.
For November’s edition we read “The Island of missing trees”:
“In 1974, two teenagers, from opposite sides of a divided Cyprus, meet at a tavern in the city they both call home. The tavern is the only place that Kostas, who is Greek, and Defne who is Turkish, can meet in secret, hidden beneath the leaves of a fig tree growing through the roof of the tavern. This tree will witness their hushed happy meetings, and will be there when the war breaks out and the teenagers vanish.
Twenty years later, Kostas, now a botanist, returns to the island looking for Defne. Together, they revisit their old sanctuary, take a cutting from the fig tree, and bring it to London. Years later, that very tree in their back garden becomes the only link their daughter, Ada, has to a homeland she has never seen. As she tries to untangle her family's secrets and find her own way, Ada embarks on a journey rich with emotion and revelation.
Shortlisted for the Costa Award, the RSL Ondaatje Prize, and the Women’s Prize for Fiction, and featured as a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick, this book is a must-read for fans of romance, historical fiction, and stories of self-discovery."
You are welcome if you are looking for a sense of belonging and want to meet other women who are passionate about books.📚
